Robin Thicke has admitted his 'Paula' album was an embarrassment

The 'Blurred Lines' singer released the flop record in a bid to win back his then-wife Paula Patton last year, but revealed his label and management team did not think it was a good idea and his best friend told him he was "embarrassing himself".

He told the New York Times newspaper: "I was struggling through my toughest time, and I decided to share it. And I remember my team and my record company didn't want me to put it out, but they stuck by me.

"In hindsight, the only thing I would have done differently was, I wouldn't have promoted it or sold it. I would have given it away. That would have kept the purity of the message intact."

Robin, 38, serenaded Paula - who left him amid allegations he had cheated on her - at the 2014 BET (Black Entertainment Television) Awards and his friend Craig Crawford was not impressed.

He explained: "I came home, and my best friend of 20 years, Craig Crawford, said, 'I saw your BET performance. I gotta be honest with you, buddy. You're kind of playing yourself, You look like a sucker.'

"And it hit me that I'd lost my perspective. What I thought was romantic was just embarrassing."

On the advice of his friend, Robin took some time off and now sees what a bad idea the album was.

He said: "I had lost my way... I took some time off to be with my son, and to be with my family and close friends. And the more time I took off, the more everything became clear."

Robin and Paula, who have a young son Julian together, divorced this year after nine years of marriage and he is now dating model April Geary, 20.
