'Rowdy' Roddy Piper's son Colt Toombs has paid tribute to his dad following his death, aged 61

The wrestling icon passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest at his Hollywood home on Thursday (30.07.15) and his son has honoured him with a post in which he described him as his "best friend".

He wrote on Twitter: "My father @R_Roddy_Piper was a great man and my best friend I will miss him forever and will alway try to be the man he raised me to be (sic)."

As well as Colt, Roddy - who also had kids Ariel, Anastacia and Falon - has been praised by numerous famous faces who have released statements mourning the star.

Fellow wrestler Zack Ryder, 30, tweeted: "RIP "Rowdy" Roddy Piper...I'll never forgot you smashing a coconut over my head at WrestleMania XXVII (sic)."

WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon also shared an emotional message, insisting he will go down in history.

He said: "Roddy Piper was one of the most entertaining, controversial and bombastic performers ever in WWE... beloved by millions of fans around the world. I extend my deepest condolences to his family."

And Mr T. wrote: "RIP Rowdy Roddy Piper! What a competitor?! I was honored to be your opponent in the first Wrestlemania. Bless you my brother. (sic)"

Hulk Hogan, who faced Roddy - who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 - in several matches during the 1980s also sent his condolences to his family, calling him a "legend".

He told TMZ: "I will forever miss him. He was my best friend. He is a legend.

"God's gain is our loss. May his family in this time of need, find peace. Much love forever."
