Emma Thompson is a "radical feminist"

The 'Saving Mr. Banks' star has insisted she will always champion equal rights for women and claims those who do not agree with feminism believe they should be subservient to men.

She said: "It's bizarre. Any woman who says they're not a feminist is basically saying that they don't believe in equal rights for women. I've been a card-carrying, radical feminist since I was 19."

The outspoken star also hit out at women who criticise their own figure, insisting it is a form of "misogyny" but admits she is not one to talk.

She added: "Any woman who says, 'I hate my bum, I hate my body,' is essentially expressing a kind of misogyny.

"All women who come up with that need to think very carefully about what it is they're saying. Including me!"

And one thing that gets the 56-year-old actress particularly angry is comments made about her age.

She shared to Vulture magazine: "The age thing is insane. It was ever thus. I remember saying years and years ago, when I was 35, that they'd have to exhume somebody to play my leading man ... Nothing's changed in that regard. If anything, it's got worse."

Referring to her role in 1995's 'Sense and Sensibility', she added: "I remember somebody saying to me that I was too old for Hugh Grant, who's like a year younger than me. I said, 'Do you want to go take a flying leap?'"
