Lionel Richie has promised his Las Vegas residency will be "fabulous karaoke"

The 'All Night Long' hitmaker has announced he will perform at Planet Hollywood for 20 shows from April 27 next year, and though he is keeping his plans for the gigs under wraps, he warned concertgoers they should be prepared to sing along.

He said: "I call it fabulous karaoke because they're going to be singing louder than I'm going to be singing. There's no telling what's going to happen in the crowd, which is something I come to look for every night."

The 66-year-old singer is delighted to be joining the likes of Celine Dion, Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez in obtaining a residency in Sin City as he thinks performing there has become the "hippest thing on the planet".

He told E! News: "It's the hippest thing on the planet. It's a destination again.

"Every artist I know is trying to either be in Vegas from time to time or the residency."

And he isn't worried about competition from other artists in residency in the city.

He added: "I love it when the streets are full. When that activity happens in town, we'll be ready for it."

And Lionel is excited about the gigs because he can "experiment" with new production.

He explained: "I get to go in and everything you can't do on the road because it's just too awful expensive, we can do it there so if there's anything I want to play with or experiment with or do the drama thing, it's in Vegas."

'Lionel Richie -- All the Hits' will kick off on April 27, 2016.
