It's been an unforgettable experience working with Barbara [Broccoli] and Sam [Mendes] to become part of this British legacy. I couldn't have done this without my fans - this is a special moment I'll never forget."
The previous highest-charting Bond themes were Adele's 'Skyfall' in 2012 and Duran Duran's 'View To A Kill' in 1985, which both peaked at number two.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1 after the news was announced, the British star added: "Out of all the songs I've brought out in my life, I was not expecting this to even chart in the top 10, let alone number one. It's unbelievable."
The full music video for the track will be unveiled by Sam, who sold 13,000 more units than his closest competitor, Justin Bieber's 'What Do You Mean?,' at 00.07am on Monday (05.10.15) in honour of Global James Bond Day.
