Bruce Springsteen is writing his autobiography.

The 66-year-old rocker will release 'Born to Run' through Simon & Schuster on September 27 and has promised to "show the reader his mind" in the book.

He said: "Writing about yourself is a funny business. But in a project like this, the writer has made one promise, to show the reader his mind. In these pages, I've tried to do this."

The 'Dancing in the Dark' hitmaker will recall his upbringing in New Jersey and his drive to become a musician, and he will also tell "for the first time the story of the personal struggles that inspired his best work, and shows us why the song 'Born to Run' reveals more than we previously realised."

According to the publishers, Bruce - who has three children with wife Patti Scialfa - began discreetly working on his autobiography in 2009 after performing with his E Street Band at the Super Bowl halftime show.

'Born To Run' will be published in hardcover, ebook, and audio editions in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India, and rights have already been sold to publishers in nine countries.
