Julianne Hough's fiancé "call the shots" in their relationship.

The 27-year-old actress-and-dancer has so much control of her career when it comes to her love life she likes to take a back seat and let NHL ice hockey player Brooks Laich be the "leading man" in their romance.

The two-time 'Dancing with the Stars' champion - who got engaged to Brooks last August - told Redbook magazine: "Because of the nature of my career, it's very easy for me to call the shots and be the man.

"So it's very nice to feel like a strong woman and still have my man be my leading man."

Julianne - the sister of the professional dancer Derek Hough - recently played Sandra Dee in 'Grease Live', alongside Vanessa Hudgens, a TV project she enjoyed very much.

Although she's happy to let Brooks take the lead in her private life, when it comes to her work she's not relenting any control.

She said: "Life's too short. I'm not going to bust my butt on a movie just because it's better for my career if it's going to make me miserable."

"When I was 21, I did and said things because I wanted to be accepted. But there's a point where you grow up.

"'Now I'm much more honest with myself and other people."

Julianne can currently be seen in comedy movie 'Dirty Grandpa' alongside Zac Efron and Robert De Niro.
