The Weeknd lead the winners at this weekend's Juno awards, taking home five prizes.

The 26-year-old singer picked up the coveted Single of the Year for 'Can't Feel My Face' and Album of the Year for 'Beauty Behind the Madness' at Sunday nights live ceremony at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Canada, to add to the Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and R&B/Soul Recording of the Year for 'Beauty Behind the Madness accolades he had picked up at the Juno Gala Dinner and Awards the evening before.

Despite his own success, the star - whose real name is Abel Tesfaye - found the time to celebrate the evening's other nominees.

Taking to the stage to pick up Album of the Year - for which he faced competition from Drake, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, and Jean Leloup - he said: "All the other nominees made amazing albums this year. Make some noise for them!"

Elsewhere at the live ceremony - where six of the 41 awards were handed out - Justin Bieber sent a video message to thank his 'Beliebers' for the Fan Choice Award as he was unable to attend because he was at the iHeartRadio awards in California.

It was the second win for the 'Sorry' hitmaker as his record 'Purpose' had been named Pop Album of the Year the evening before.

Adele was also a double winner, scooping Video of the Year for 'Hello' and International Album of the Year for '25'.

Alessia Cara, 19, was stunned to pick up her first Juno for Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

She told the crowd: "I'm just a regular girl who lived the most normal life and I released a song and it hasn't been the same since."

The evening was presented by Jann Arden and Jon Montgomery, while The Weeknd was among the performers, along with Bryan Adams, Dean Brody, Alessia Cara, Dear Rouge, Coleman Hell, Scott Helman, Shawn Hook, Lights, Shawn Mendes, and Whitehorse.
