Kristen Stewart is set to make her directorial debut with a short film about the power of women.

The 'Twilight' star will step behind the camera, teaming up with Refinery29, to produce a short film titled 'Water'.

It will form a part of a series of 12 short films, which will be created by female filmmakers, writers and animators and the first offering, Chloe Sevigny's 'Kitty', will premiere at Cannes Film Festival later this month.

And 'Empire' actress Gabourey Sidibe, who will direct her own short film titled 'A Tale of Four Women', spoke of the importance of being able to tell a story through her own voice.

Addressing reporters at the media company's presentation at the Digital Content NewFronts event on Monday (02.05.16), she said: "[In my acting career] everything I do, my image and who I am and what I feel represents me is in the hands of a man, usually a white man ... I realised very recently that I want to be the one that decides what image I show the public."

It was also announced that America Ferrera will also be ex ecutive producing a multimedia project titled 'Behind the Headlines' and docuseries 'Only Girl'.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old Kristen previously revealed she would love to get into the directing chair when she finds the right story.

She explained: "Hopefully as soon as humanly possible. I really want to. I have to find the right thing. I started working when I was nine. I love this industry. I love what movies can do so I'll find my story."

And Kristen also feels she "learns more" about herself through her work.

She added: "I see it as a means of looking more deeply into your own psychology when you're attempting to understand what makes your characters behave the way they do and who they really are.

"It's a process that helps me learn more about myself although I think just living every day and being with other people helps me do that too. I like to believe that I'm living as honestly and authentically as possible."
