Celine Dion's husband died after falling out of bed.

René Angélil passed way in January aged 73 after battling throat cancer, and the 48-year-old singer has revealed the music producer was found on the floor by his "distraught" nurse.

She said: "René wanted to die in my arms but, alas, I was singing that night. He died on the night of 13-14 January. He must have wanted to get up and he fell on the floor.

"Normally, after my show when he had taken his last medications, I gave him a kiss, tucked him in and sent him off to sleep. That evening I didn't want to wake him. It was the nurse who found him the next day. Distraught, she came to find me. I went into the room."

Celine - who has five-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy, and 15-year-old son René-Charles with her late husband - admits she was "haunted" by the possibility that René may have broken something when he fell and even had to "comfort" her doctor when she rang to tell him that he had passed away.

She added to Paris Match magazine: "I called the doctor, who I had to comfort, saying, 'René won't suffer any more, it's better this way.'

"Later, the doctor found that René hadn't suffered any fracture or wound or bleed - that had haunted me."

Meanwhile, Celine previously admitted she feels at "peace" after her husband's passing.

She shared: "I really, really want to prove to my kids their mother is strong. René always insisted the show must go on. You know what, I'm 48 years old and I lost the love of my life. I miss him a lot from when he was great but not when he was suffering. I cannot be selfish. You have to let people go. I feel at peace.

"He left me with all of his strength. Every day we live with him, just not physically. I'm thankful that he does not suffer anymore."
