Jess Glynne says women in music "should be celebrated" as much as their male counterparts.

The 'Hold My Hand' hitmaker is one of the headliners at the first day of BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend and is glad women are starting to top the bill at festivals up and down the country.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz at the music event at Powderham Castle in Exeter, Devon on Saturday (28.05.16), she said: "It's just as important as having anyone [headlining]. We should be celebrated just as much as the next person."

When asked about the possibility of new music, she added: "It's a weird one. My album is still doing alright for itself and I don't really have that much time to do anything at the moment with being on the road. I'll probably wait until the end of the year when I take a break."

And when it comes to the 26-year-old's fashion sense, she tries to mirror it to her music.

She added: "I just like trying new things it's fun. Different looks, different shows and different vibes. It always has a different vibe to everything you do. What I wear and how I present myself is part of my musical journey."

Meanwhile, Jess underwent surgery on her vocal chords in 2015 and previously admitted her recovery drove her "mad".

She recalled: "It was terrifying, really terrifying. It was a singer's worst nightmare. The whole process of recovery was, like, a good eight weeks. It was a good two months, yeah.

"I mean, it takes six weeks until you can even sing a note, like there was three weeks of no talking at all. And then you start to talk ... it is a really long process."

BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend Exeter 2016 will be live on Radio 1 on May 28 and 29. Watch live online, on BBC iPlayer, with highlights on BBC Four and Radio 1’s YouTube channel.
