Idris Elba believes he's "too old" to play James Bond.

In a move that could finally put an end to speculation the actor could take over the role of 007 from Daniel Craig, Idris has revealed there have been no talks between himself and Bond producers, and he thinks, at 43, he's too old to portray the daredevil British secret service agent.

Speaking on 'Good Morning America' on Thursday (21.07.16) the 'Luther' star spoke about what he has termed "the wildest rumour in the world", and jokingly said: "I keep saying if it were to happen it would be the will of a nation because there hasn't been any talks between me and the studio about any of that. But everywhere I go people want that to happen, so.

"But if I'm really honest, I think I'm too old for that man, running around in cars and ladies and martinis, who wants to do that? Sounds terrible."

The bandwagon for Idris to become the first black James Bond has sparked much controversy.

Former 007 Sir Roger Moore stated he thinks Bond should be "English-English," prompting Idris to remind him he was "born and raised in England".

Whilst 007 author Anthony Horowitz caused a public outcry and was forced to apologise when he suggested Idris was "too street" to play Bond.

With Craig, 48, believed to be leaving the role after four outings and Idris out of the picture that leaves Aiden Turner, Jack Huston, James Norton, Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hardy and Damian Lewis as the favourites.
