Alicia Vikander was mistaken for a tourist when she arrived in Las Vegas to shoot scenes for their movie 'Jason Bourne'.

The 27-year-old Swedish star plays CIA agent Heather Lee in the action blockbuster opposite Matt Damon and the pair, along with the rest of the cast, had to go to Sin City to film an epic car chase.

When Alicia got in a taxi to get to the location shoot the driver had no idea she was was an Oscar-winning actress and told her if she was "lucky" she might get catch a glimpse of Damon on the Strip, which had been closed off for filming.

During an appearance on American breakfast TV show 'Today', she said: "He thought that I probably just arrived in Las Vegas. This cab driver turned around and was like, 'You know, I went to the Strip, they closed it off and made this amazing action sequence for the new 'Bourne' movie.' He was like, 'You know, you could be lucky, you might just see Matt Damon on the street!' "

Alicia - who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance in 'The Danish Girl' - didn't actually get to be directly involved in the car chase but did get see the carnage from the top of a hotel.

She added: "I wasn't in that scene, sadly, but they blew up 170 cars for that scene. Normally, you kind of assume that everything is kind of green screen and CGI nowadays, but I went up to one of the top floors of one of the hotels one night and looked down and just saw vehicles flying in the air!"

Damon, 45, previously admitted the high-octane chase through Las Vegas Boulevard was one of his favourite sequences from the film - which sees him reprise the role of the special agent for a fourth time following a nine-year break from the franchise.

He revealed: "We smashed 170 cars, that's right, we totalled 170 cars!

"It's bigger than anything we've done but it has this same kind of visceral experience that these 'Bourne' car chases have been known for. Hopefully it's the best one yet."
