Dr. Dre was reportedly handcuffed and placed in a police patrol car after being involved in a driveway encounter in Malibu, California, on Monday.

The 51-year-old rap star, whose real name is Andre Young, was cited by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department after a man accused him of pointing a gun at him for blocking Dre's driveway.

The sheriff's deputies investigated the man's claims, but Dre told them he did not have a gun on him and a search did not turn up a weapon either.

Deputy Mike Barraza said Dre was co-operative and consented to a search, according to USA Today newspaper.

What's more, the rap mogul was not arrested or taken into custody.

In a subsequent statement, the sheriff's office confirmed Dre told deputies that he complained the man was blocking his driveway.

Dre asked the man to leave his property, but instead he moved his car nearby. He did, however, leave the scene after the rapper recorded cellphone video of him.

The accuser initiated a citizen's arrest for brandishing a firearm, which led to a citation. But if the accuser wishes to take the case any further, he would need to take Dre to court.

Despite being one of the top-earning figures within the music industry, Dre has been in trouble with the law in the past.

In 1992, for instance, he pleaded guilty in a case of battery of a police officer.

What's more, in January 1994, the former N.W.A. member was arrested after leading police on a 90mph pursuit through Beverly Hills.

Subsequently, it was found that his blood-alcohol level was 0.16, which is twice the state's legal limit.

As the incident violated the terms of a previous conviction, Dre was sentenced to eight months in prison in September 1994.
