Lady Gaga nursed broken heart by performing emotional songs at an impromptu concert in New York

The 30-year-old pop star recently split from fiance Taylor Kinney and her upset was clear to see as she sang ballads including 'I Can't Give You Anything But Love' at the Rose Bar in the Big Apple.

However, she was still enjoying herself and managed to have fun with the audience.

A source added to New York Post's Page Six Column: "She bantered a lot with the crowd. She was talking about the value of friendship and how much she enjoys playing music with her friends."

The 'Born This Way' hitmaker was joined on stage by Brian Newman - the father of Gaga's godchild - and the frontman of The Dirty Pearls, Tommy London.

The surprise show comes after the blonde beauty announced her temporary split from 35-year-old Taylor.

While the pair decided to take a break Gaga is adamant the couple - who got engaged in February 2015 - aren't over for good and are hoping a short break to focus on their respective careers will mend their romance.

She said recently: "Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break.

"We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We're just like everybody else and we really love each other."

Meanwhile, music is not the only thing Gaga has to distract herself.

The 'Applause' singer recently announced she has become a godmother for the second time to her friends' Brian and Angie's little daughter Sistilia.

Taking to her Instagram account, she uploaded a photograph of her holding the little one at the ceremony alongside the caption: "So proud to be made one of the Godmother's of our little angel Sistilia (sic)."
