Mary J. Blige has split from her husband

The 'Family Affair' singer has filed for divorce from Martin 'Kendu' Isaacs - who is also her manager - after 12 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.

According to TMZ, for unclear reasons the split date is stated in the documentation as "to be determined", and the 45-year-old singer has asked the courts to deny spousal support.

It is not clear if the couple - who don't have children together - had a pre-nuptial agreement.

Mary previously admitted having both a personal and professional relationship with her spouse could be tough.

She said in 2014: "He always has my back - he's going to fight to the death for Mary J Blige. The downside is that there's no separation - it's on all the time.

"When you don't feel like answering to your manager, he's still your husband. If one of you doesn't want to talk about something right now, you have to respect that. And you have to respect each other's space."

The 'No More Drama' singer has also confessed that she and her spouse forbade one another from having friends of the opposite sex in case it damaged their marriage.

She said: "All females for me, all guys for him. There's none of that, 'Oh, that's my female friend. Oh, that's my guy friend.' No. Not in a marriage, I've never seen that work."
