David and Victoria Beckham reportedly set to lose £4 million on French mansion

The couple have put their sprawling estate in Bargemon on the market for £2.4 million, £1 million more than they paid for it in 2003, despite spending up to £5 million on renovations.

A source told Sun on Sunday: "They might have poured millions into the mansion, but they didn't seem too keen to enjoy the results of their cash.

"The locals won't miss them as they were hardly ever here.

"You wouldn't have seen Victoria queuing for a croissant in the boulangerie."

The mansion has six bedrooms, three reception rooms, four bathrooms and an infinity pool "with magnificent views of the woodland and meadow", according to estate agent Frank Knight.

The couple have reportedly decided to sell because they rarely used the property as they prefer to divide their time between London and Los Angeles, where they own homes.

Meanwhile, it was recently claimed that the Beckhams are searching for a £6 million country home.

The couple have recently finished renovations on their central London property but fashion designer Victoria is keen for the family to have a base away from the bustling city.

So after being inspired by TV show 'Downton Abbey', she is looking for a sprawling estate that boats stables, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, a design studio and a pond where soccer legend David can fish.

A source said: "Victoria has stepped up her search in recent weeks and wants to get a move on. She wants her own version of Downton Abbey - something very classic as opposed to their place in London which is very modern."

The couple - who have four children, Brooklyn, 17, Romeo, 13, Cruz, 11, and five-year-old Harper, together - are said to be looking in or around the Cotswolds, south central England.
