Lily Allen has started writing a book.

The 'Smile' singer has been inspired to take on the written word after reading American writer-and-director Nora Ephron's collection of self-help essays 'I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman'.

Released in 2006, the tome sees the 'When Harry Met Sally' screenwriter share nuggets of wisdom she has accumulated throughout her life, such as "never marry a man you wouldn't want to be divorced from" and "when your children are teenagers, it's important to have a dog so that someone in the house is happy to see you".

And Lily, 31, is now aiming to create her own guide to life based on her own experiences.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday (17.08.16), she revealed: "I read Nora Ephrons 'I feel bad about my neck' today. It inspired me to start writing a book, I've been writing solidly for 3hrs #eurekamoment (sic)"

The pop star is just at the start of a family holiday in Italy with her two daughters, Ethel, four, and three-year-old Marnie - her kids with her estranged husband Sam Cooper.

So far Lily has been busy looking after her girls and has had no more time to write but her mother Alison Owen and Ethel and Marnie's cousins are flying out to join them on Thursday (18.08.16) which may mean she will get a chance to continue with the project.

In other tweets, she said: "When you have children, you forget to do things like wax your legs and have pedicures before you go on holiday ... Actually when you have children and you travel with them, it's not really a holiday ... Grandma and feral cousins arrive today though, there is hope (sic)"

The holiday began with in-air stress for Lily as one of her young daughters got air sickness and the songwriter had to catch the vomit in her cupped hands because Ryanair - who she was travelling with - no longer provide sick bags.

In Twitter posts, she shared: "Dear @Ryanair please can you reintroduce sick bags. I just cupped my hands for my child to vomit into ... And then carried it all the way to the loo. Also, no soap so had to borrow some anti-bac off of another passenger. (sic)"
