Idina Menzel's divorce has taught her not to be so hard on herself

The 'Frozen' star ended her 11-year marriage to Taye Diggs in 2014 but has tried to see the positive side and learn from it.

She told People Now: "You learn to try to not be so hard on yourself. You have a lot of regret with a child, feeling like you're failing them in some way and not giving them the idealistic scenario."

The 45-year-old singer - who has seven-year-old Walker with Taye - recently got engaged to Aaron Lohr and revealed it is a "new beginning".

She said: "I'm super happy, yeah! Very happy. I'm happy because it's all coming together, everything feels good. I went through a lot of stuff and its new beginnings."

Idina announced she was engaged on Twitter on Sunday (25.09.16).

She gushed: "What an incredible week. Thank you to everyone for all your support with the album.

"As if this week couldn't get any better I have wonderful news... my man and I are engaged! We are so happy. It's a beautiful time."

Meanwhile, the brunette beauty previously revealed she was motivated to make her new album by those who told her she couldn't break through into the pop genre.

She said: "It's just what I've been wanting to do my whole life. Just make music and sing for a living. To get accolades is great, but it's just the need to sing.

"Coming from the theatre, everybody always said you couldn't break through with the pop thing and I always believed in myself that I could, so I appreciate people giving me a chance."
