    Magnitude 5.1 quake strikes Seddon

Seddon has been struck by its second magnitude 5 earthquake in less than a week.

Another strong earthquake has jolted New Zealand's upper South Island with shaking felt across the region.

The magnitude 5.1 quake recorded by GeoNet as "severe" struck 15km east of Seddon at 1.20pm on Wednesday.

Within minutes more than 4500 people had reported feeling the sharp jolt, most coming from the lower North Island.

The quake came just days after the last severe quake, a magnitude 5.3 near Seddon on Friday.
