Sienna Miller and Jack O'Connell are to star in a new production of 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof'

The 'American Sniper' actress will make her first appearance on the London stage in six years as wild Maggie, while the 'Starred Up' star will play her hunky former American football player husband, who is unable to satisfy his wife's needs in director Benedict Andrews' upcoming play, which will run for 12 weeks this summer.

The director is known for his exploration of characters' dark urges and Sienna is looking forward to seeing his take on Tennessee Williams' classic tale.

She said: "With Benedict, it won't be a traditional version."

Benedict explained his approach for the show will be taken from a line in the play which states the married couple "inhabit the same cage", and vowed to capture the "raw, ferocious truth of Williams' writing", while he is looking forward to seeing his leading lady in action on stage.

He told the Daily Mail newspaper's columnist Baz Bamigboye: "She's a very special actress.

"Maggie is such a fighter -- and so sexually provocative, so full of hunger."

And Jack, who was cast after Sienna, is "really excited" to be working with the 35-year-old beauty.

He said: "She's going to be the business as Maggie."

The 26-year-old star has never seen the movie version of 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof', which starred Dame Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman, and doesn't intend to watch it as part of his preparations.

He said: "I'm appearing in a play by Tennessee Williams -- not a version of a film. I want to make up my own mind -- along with Benedict -- about how to play Brick."

Previews will begin for the production at the Apollo Theatre on July 13.
