    One cyclist dead, one hurt in truck crash

    One cyclist is dead and another is seriously injured after colliding with truck near Twizel in the South Island.


    One cyclist is dead and another is hurt after a truck collided with the pair on a South Island highway.

    Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 8 between the Tekapo and Twizel at about 6.30am on Wednesday.

    One person had died at the scene and one man had been flown to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries, St John's ambulance said.

    Police asked drivers to avoid the area and warned of delays.
