Ross Taylor to assist Papua New Guinea

Black Caps batting great Ross Taylor will be a consultant coach for Papua New Guinea during their tour of the United Arab Emirates.

New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor will have a coaching role with Papua New Guinea during their looming tour of the United Arab Emirates.

Veteran international Taylor will join the Barramundis for a week following negotiations between officials from ICC East Asia Pacific, New Zealand Cricket and the NZ Cricket Players' Association.

Taylor, 33, will have "consultant coach" title alongside PNG head coach Dipak Patel, the former New Zealand spinning allrounder.

One of New Zealand's greatest batsmen, Taylor will dip his toes into coaching for the first time after an injury-plagued end to the summer. A calf tear has ruled him out of the last two Tests against South Africa.

ICC regional development manager Kieran McMillan hopes Taylor's involvement will be ongoing as PNG sets about trying to qualify for the next World Cup.

The Barramundis arrived this week in Dubai where they will play three warm-up matches against English county sides.

They face the UAE in three one-day internationals, an Inter-Continental Cup four-day match and three Twenty20 internationals.
