Ryan Reynolds has joked he’s in the “dog house” after he claimed Jake Gyllenhaal was a better cook than his wife

The 40-year-old actor has struck up a close friendship with his ‘Life’ co-star, but has now claimed comments he made during an appearance on ‘Good Morning America’ have landed him in hot water with his wife Blake Lively.

During his appearance on the American news programme, Ryan said: "Blake [Lively], my wife, is very good at cooking, and Jake might be just a little bit better. He can throw down. It gets very competitive between the two."

Now, Ryan – who shares two daughters James, two, and Ines, six months, with his spouse – has now joked their dog Baxter has been “upgraded to the main bed” as 29-year-old Blake has kicked Ryan outside.

He teased: "Funny enough, I'm actually living right now in an actual dog house. Baxter is usually staying in there, but he's moved out for now. He's been upgraded to the main bed.

Ryan then clarified: "I wasn't totally in the dog house because they get competitive with the cooking. They're both incredibly accomplished chefs."

However, Ryan may have made the fake feud worse for himself, as instead of taking a moment to praise his wife’s culinary skills, he gushed about Jake’s “simple” cooking.

He said: "You do simple stuff, really. I'm serious. You've made salmon and steak. Those things are really good. I'm simple; like bowls of cereal I'll do really well. He's very good at the staples.”

The 36-year-old actor had trouble finding any kind words to reciprocate, though.

Asked by E! News to say something nice about Ryan, Jake said: "What's super frustrating to me, I've been asked this a couple times, then someone throws me out in the deep water. 'Just say something nice about him!' First of all, no matter what I say I'm going to sound like I'm not telling the truth.

"Have you seen the guy's calves? His Achilles and his calves are unmatched."
