Stormzy has paid tribute to his late friend Aaron Eaton who committed suicide last September

The 'Shut Up' hitmaker has taken to Twitter to share a throwback selfie with the 'Brotherhood' actor - who portrayed Teardrop in Noel Clarke's 2016 film about London gangs - who was just 29 years old when he took his own life after having a bust-up with his girlfriend.

Alongside the photo, Stormzy - whose real name is Michael Omari - wrote: "Rest in perfect peace my bro ... can't believe it, love and prayers to your family smh (sic)"

Stormzy made his post following an inquest into his death on Monday (20.03.17).

The inquest was held at South London Coroner's Court and Eaton's passing was recorded as an open verdict, according to the Croydon Advertiser newspaper.

On September 6, 2016, Eaton was said to be "feeling down as a result of a break-up" and he had "spoken to a friend [that] morning and said he was going to hang himself".

He had taken alcohol, paracetamol and cocaine prior to his death.

The late star's mother, Janette Eaton, told the court how she had spoken to her son the day he died as he was telling her how "upset" he was about his argument and the end of his relationship after his girlfriend allegedly cheated on him.

She said at the inquest: "I had not seen him for a week as I was on holiday, I had spoken with Aaron [that day] at around 8.30am and he was upset that he had found out his ex-girlfriend had started a relationship with someone else."

She went on to say how "he spoke to a friend [that] morning and said he was going to hang himself".

However, she didn't get a response when she dialed his number.

On finding Eaton hung at their house in New Addington, south London, she added: "I arrived home to find my son hanging .. . I called 999 and used a serrated bread knife [to cut him down]."

Mrs. Eaton said how her son would only ever consume booze when he was upset about something.

She added: "He was excited when I left. He would drink, only when he was down. When he was upset he would stay in his room and not answer his phone."
