Cindy Crawford wishes people wouldn't "point out" she's looking older on social media

The 51-year-old catwalk legend - who in the 1980s and 90s was one of the original supermodels along with Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista - knows she cannot do anything to halt the ageing process, but she would prefer it if internet users would avoid dissecting her appearance and stop criticising her for showing signs of maturity.

Speaking to PEOPLE magazine about her struggle with being in the public eye, the brunette beauty said: "I guess I don't have a choice. My only thing is that no one on social media needs to point out how I'm aging. I know. The aspect of our society that wants to criticize everyone else saddens me."

However, the catwalk icon likes to show off her natural and make-up free skin on sites such as Instagram or Twitter, even if people claim she looks dissimilar to other photographs.

She added: "That's one of the advantages of taking care of your skin - you don't feel like you have to cover it up with makeup. I don't want to only present myself in one way, so when people see me in person, they're like, 'Wow, she looks nothing like her pictures.'"

Regardless of the comments Cindy receives, which she tries to ignore, she feels "fortunate" she is still fit and healthy.

She explained: "I feel so fortunate. I am strong. I work out. I am healthy. I try to focus on that as opposed to picking myself apart."

And the fashion icon has revealed a Kevin Murphy's Young Again leave-in treatment helps her to feel youthful.

Speaking about her rejuvenating beauty tips, Cindy - who has daughter Kaia, 15, and 17-year-old son Presley with her husband Rande Gerber - said: "[Lush's Jasmine and Henna Fluff Eaze hair treatment] I put it on when I am working out and it smells really good and then after I work out I wash my hair.

"[Young Again] It's a serum for the ends and I just love the name. When I put it on, I'm like, 'OK, make me young again!'

"I look at my daughter's hair and I am like you have my old hair and that is what I want, so I am taking you to the colourist!"
