Val Kilmer joked people think he's a "pervert" because of his comments about Cate Blanchett

The 57-year-old actor flooded his Twitter account earlier this week with posts professing his love for the 'Notes on a Scandal' star - who he appeared with in 'The Missing' in 2003 - but he still doesn't understand why they have attracted so much attention.

Val made an appearance at the Irvine Improv in California on Wednesday (29.03.17) evening to introduce a special screening of his one-man play 'Citizen Twain' and was asked during a Q&A who his favourite co-star was to work with.

He joked in response: "I can't say Cate Blanchett. I wrote nice things about Cate Blanchett on Twitter and now I'm a pervert.

"I don't know why loving an actor that's so talented is creepy, but I guess I'm creepy."

And the 'Batman Forever' actor insists there was nothing "weird" about his posts as he always writes about his "friends" on social media.

He told People: "It makes no sense. I didn't say anything weird.

"I write about all my friends. There's no story. Nothing weird."

In a series of tweets posted over the weekend about the lengths he's gone to just to be in Cate's company, Val explained: "Once I flew all the way to Australia just to talk to Cate Blanchett. Her husband met me first. Or, instead, I guess, to be accurate ... And recently I've had 2 dreams with #CateBlanchett in them. Her husband wasn't in either of them ... She's just as amazing in person. Some superstars aren't ... Some superstars don't do a thing to ya in person ... Cate is so real it's almost unreal ... (sic)"

He also shared how he picked a small part in an unknown movie just so he could see her and was mesmerised by how she used a shovel in their scene.

He added: "Once I did a cameo just to hang w/ #cateblanchett who picked up a shovel in our sc. I was so dazzled by HOW she picked it up I forgot my line (sic)"

Despite admitting he is attracted to the blonde beauty, the 'Top Gun' actor insisted he was friends with her husband Andrew Upton and they all "get along just fine".

The dark-haired hunk also told his followers that he doesn't need to "curb [his] enthusiasm" about the 'Blue Jasmine' actress and if anyone doubts him he knows Cate will "back up every word" he's said about her.
