Two Kiwi crews will contest medal races at the World Cup regatta in Hyeres, France - but only just.
Laser sailor Sam Meech and the 49er crew of Josh Porebski and Trent Rippey both qualified 10th for their respective 10-boat medal races and have no mathematical chance of a winning medals.
Even with double points on offer, Olympic bronze medallist Meech will make up the numbers in his decider.
He finished the fleet phase in impressive style, placing fifth and sixth in two races on Saturday, but paid the price for poor results through the middle stages.
Compatriot Andrew McKenzie was 15th in the 60-strong field.
Porebski and Rippey finished 20th, ninth and 11th in the last qualifying races to book the final available berth.
Fellow-Kiwis Isaac McHardie and William Mckenzie were 16th.
Another New Zealand crew to narrowly miss a medal race berth were 13th-placed Nacra 17 pair Olivia Mackay and Micah Wilkinson.
