    One dead, five injured in Waikato crash

    One person is dead and five are injured, two critically, after a crash in northern Waikato.


    One person is dead and two others are critically injured following a crash in northern Waikato.

    The crash happened on Waerenga Road, near Te Kauwhata, about 3.50pm on Friday, police say.

    The age of the deceased person could not initially be confirmed, a spokeswoman says.

    St John New Zealand sent five ambulances to the scene, and the injured people have been taken to Waikato Hospital.

    Two patients are listed as critical, one serious and two moderate.

    Diversions are in place around the crash site.
