Erebus not a Supercars underdog: Reynolds

Erebus driver David Reynolds hates his team being labelled underdogs, insisting they can match it with Supercars' best.

Outspoken Supercars driver David Reynolds has sent another clear message: don't call Erebus underdogs.

Reynolds sits 11th in the Supercars championship with teammate Dale Woods 24th heading into the ninth race of the season at Winton on Saturday.

He was third fastest in Friday's practice after the second session redeemed what he described as a "really bad start" on a sodden track during the first.

But the 31-year-old bristled at suggestions the team relished being underdogs.

"We actually hate it," Reynolds said. "But everyone coins that term for us."

"To be honest we don't like to be called that - probably don't call us that.

Reynolds is adamant the label won't help Erebus compete with the likes of DJR Team Penske's championship leader Fabian Coulthard and Scott McLaughlin, nor Triple Eight's Shane Van Gisbergen and Jamie Whincup.

"We're another race team. We're full of experienced people and we're trying to beat the DJR blokes and the Triple Eight people," Reynolds said.

"We've got to stop demoting ourselves to the back of the group.

"We've always got to promote our team to be positive in a good fashion and make everyone feel good and we're in with a chance.

"If we've got our car sorted we're in with a chance."

Reynolds finished 16th in his first year with Erebus last season one year after finishing third overall in his final year with Rod Nash Racing.
