New Zealand's journalists dolled up in Auckland overnight as they came together to celebrate the past year's best print and digital journalism at the Canon 2017 Media Awards.
In a busy year for reporters, major events included November's devastating Kaikoura earthquake, the All Blacks embarking on a world-recording winning run and former Prime Minister John Key's resignation.
The NZ Herald was among the night's big winners being named the daily and weekly Newspaper of the Year.
Newshub claimed the Best News Website award, while New Zealand Geographic was named Magazine of the Year and the Nelson Mail Newspaper of the Year among smaller publications.
Stuff and its collection of regional papers won the award for the best coverage of a major news event for their reporting on November's 7.8-magnitude Kaikoura earthquake.
NZ Herald journalist Matt Nippert was named reporter of the year after he also claimed the award for writing the year's best investigative piece, about the tax practices of some large corporations in New Zealand.
