    Marks named in NZ basketball Hall of Fame

    Sean Marks is inducted into the New Zealand basketball Hall of Fame following his deeds for the Tall Blacks and in the NBA.


    The accomplished career of Sean Marks has been honoured with his inclusion in the New Zealand basketball Hall of Fame.

    Marks was one of 10 inductees unveiled at a function on Friday, marking another milestone in a sport the 41-year-old has served on multiple fronts.

    In 1998, Marks left the University of California and was drafted to play in the NBA, becoming the first Kiwi to do so.

    In the 13 years before his retirement, Marks played for the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns, New Orleans Hornets and Portland Trail Blazers.

    He then progressed up the chain at the Spurs, serving as a director of basketball, assistant coach and assistant general manager.

    Marks' next step was to his current post as general manager for the Brooklyn Nets.

    As a Tall Black, Marks was a skilful forward who played at two Olympic Games and was part of the giant-killing 2002 New Zealand side who placed fourth at the world championship.

    Hall of Fame inductees: Frank Baldwin, Graeme Davey, Bruce McCormack, Robin Milligan, Keith Mair, Leonie Patterson, Megan Compain, Sean Marks, Gina Farmer, Judge John Macdonald.
