Bryson Goodwin set to depart Rabbitohs

Rabbitohs centre Bryson Goodwin has all but confirmed a move to Super League side Leigh at the end of the NRL season.

South Sydney centre Bryson Goodwin has all but confirmed a move to England at the end of the NRL season, but refused to believe the Rabbitohs' current campaign is over.

Goodwin, who was part of the Rabbitohs' drought-breaking 2014 premiership squad, is set to link with Super League side Leigh in 2018, spelling the end to his 11-season NRL career.

"I just made my mind up. Have to wait for it to be official. It's waiting for them pretty much right now," Goodwin said on Monday.

"I made a lot of friends here with all the staff and players. If I do leave, it'd be a very sad day. But in saying that, it's a new adventure for me and my family that we'll be looking forward to do."

The former Canterbury and Cronulla back revealed there was an offer to remain in the NRL, but he opted to take up the opportunity to travel through Europe with his family.

Ahead of Friday's clash against Gold Coast, his likely departure will be added motivation to lift the Rabbitohs out of the doldrums.

The Redfern-based club is sitting in 14th spot after losing six of their past seven matches, and need to win eight of their final 11 games to reach the traditional 28-point finals mark.

"We're not that far off. I think we're about two to three games out of the eight, so if we string a few wins together, anything can happen," he said.

Meanwhile, fullback Cody Walker was reluctant to discuss his desire for a contract upgrade after switching player managers earlier this year.

Walker's new manager made headlines last month by threatening his client could walk out on the club should he not receive a pay increase on an extension he signed last year.

"I don't really speak to my manager too much during the week, I speak to him every couple of days - not about contracts, just about everyday life," he said.

"I just let my manager and the club deal with that behind closed doors and I just want to focus on getting the win this weekend."
