Family informed over fatal car blast

The cause of a fatal car explosion at a Queenstown reserve is still being probed, but police have been in contact with the suspected victim's family.

The cause of a fatal car explosion at a Queenstown reserve is still being probed, but police have been in contact with the suspected victim's family.

Police said the Sturgess family were advised that a car belonging to their son, husband and father, Kurt had been involved in a fire near Queenstown.

Although a formal identification was yet to be completed all indications were that Kurt Sturgess was in the vehicle, police said on Wednesday evening.

Police said the family are devastated about the loss of Mr Sturgess and are assisting with enquiries.

Firefighters were called to Jardine Park in Kelvin Heights just after 9pm on Tuesday where they found the station wagon alight and a man dead at the scene.
