Knife to throat in west Auckland robbery

A west Auckland takeaway owner has had a knife held to his throat during a robbery while his children watched.

The children of a west Auckland takeaway owner have watched as their father had a knife held to his throat during a robbery, police say.

"The shop owners had young children in the store at the time of the robbery and witnessed the incident," Detective Sergeant Kelly Farrant said of Saturday night's attack at Sunnyvale Takeaways on Sunnyside Road.

Two men entered the shop armed with scissors and a knife.

One held the knife to the shop owner's throat while the other man stole the cash register before both fled towards Awaroa Road.

Police and members of the public chased the men but they got away.

"This has been extremely distressing for everyone involved and we are committed to finding those responsible," Det Sgt Farrant said.

Police have reviewed CCTV footage of the incident and are now seeking help to identify the two men.
