    Fundraising brings in money

Financial boost for team NZ-$1.7 million from fundraising activities including auction on waterfront-website 1.8 million hits

    19 October 2002
A welcome financial boost for Team New Zealand.

Fundraising activities have brought in $1.7 million for the America's Cup defenders.

An auction on Auckland's waterfront last night and has been rated a big success by organiser Geoff Davidson.

He says it began with bids for two yacht models which brought in $36,000 dollars.

The wheel off NZL 60 went for $100,000 and that set the tone for the night.

He says the Internet auction website had more than 1.8 million hits, and raised more than $600,000.
