Auckland student Aaron Booth has won New Zealand's first medal of the World University Games in Taiwan with a bronze in the decathlon.
Booth, 20, set a new personal best total of 7523 points to finish behind Australian Kyle Cranston on 7687 and Juuso Hassi (Finland) with 7566.
Booth's total was a 300-point improvement on his previous best of 7246 points, set at the Australian championships earlier this year.
He is now ranked sixth on New Zealand's all-time list, which is topped by Simon Poelman's 8366 set 30 years ago.
"I wasn't expecting to medal or anything. I just wanted to go out there and put my last three months of preparation and training into a performance I could be proud of," he said.
Booth also contested the 2015 Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea, but was forced to retire injured.
