    Vodafone to drop email accounts

Vodafone will turn off its email services in November, a move that could effect up to 250,000 people.

If you own an ihug, paradise or clearnet email address, you had better get another one - quickly.

Vodafone announced on Friday its decision to close all its email accounts on November 30, after months of delayed mail and spam.

The telecommunications company is now encouraging its customers to set up Gmail or other free accounts, RNZ has reported.

Vodafone has promised customers it will automatically forward email from their closed Vodafone addressses - that include those ending in ihug.co.nz, paradise.net.nz, vodafone.co.nz and clearnet.co.nz - to a new email address of their choice for as long as they remain a Vodafone customer.

It was hard to gauge exactly how many customers were actively using their accounts, because many had already abandoned them, a Vodafone spokeswoman said.

Many of the Vodafone addresses were launched in the 1990s.
