A New Caledonian man has pleaded guilty to three charges following a fatal motor accident in the South Waikato last month.

One of the charges was careless driving causing death and two of careless driving causing injury

Jeff Tau Viriama, 43, collided head on with a Toyota on State Highway 1 near Tirau when he crossed the centre line on August 23.

The crash killed Hamilton woman Alysia Jade Kelly, 27, instantly and put three other people - including Viriama - in hospital.

Viriama's wife, who was a passenger in the vehicle remains in intensive care at Waikato Hospital after suffering a crushed torso and a fractured leg in the accident.

The driver of the car Ms Kelly was travelling in also suffered multiple fractures to his arms as a result of the crash.
