    Five arrested over Auckland van robberies

    Five people have been arrested in relation to a series of aggravated robberies in Auckland in which cash in transit vans was targeted, police say.


    Five people have been arrested over a series of aggravated robberies involving cash in transit vans in Auckland.

    Police say they are looking to locate others involved in the four incidents, which happened over a three-month period in Mt Roskill, Royal Oak, Mt Wellington and Papatoetoe.

    Three robberies involved offenders targeting vans that were uplifting cash from commercial premises, Detective Sergeant John de Heer said.

    The fourth robbery targeted a foreign cash exchange premises in Papatoetoe.

    Those arrested are four males - two aged 25 and the others 26 and 16 - and a 22-year-old female.

    Det Sgt de Heer says they face charges that include aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and unlawful taking of motor vehicle.

    He says a large team of investigators has been working on Operation Mini and police are pleased with the outcome, but are not ruling out further arrests.

    "Our work is not done and we are still looking to locate others involved in these robberies," he said.

    "Crimes of this nature are upsetting and traumatic for those involved and these offenders need to be held to account."
