McKenzie in medal hunt at European champs

Kiwi sailor Andrew McKenzie struggles on the penultimate day of the European Laser championships but he still has a shot at gold.

New Zealand sailor Andrew McKenzie is in the thick of the race for medals heading into the final day of the European Laser championships in Barcelona.

McKenzie is fifth heading into the double-points medal race and the packed nature of the leaderboard means he could yet win gold or finish as low as eighth.

Twelfth and 17th placings in the final fleet races on Saturday didn't help the Kiwi's cause as his net point tally slipped to 58.

Francesco Marrai leads on 48 points, six clear of Croatian Tonci Stipanovic, who had led throughout the regatta until two poor results on the penultimate day.
