West Coast fisherman search ends for day

A search for a fisherman missing for more than a month after the boat he was on sank on the West Coast is set to resume in the morning, weather permitting.

Police divers looking for a fisherman missing since the boat he was on sank on the West Coast last month have completed their search for the day.

Kieran Lynch has not been seen since the Wendy J sank near Smoothwater Bay, at Haast, on September 14.

The wreck is resting at a depth of about 25 metres and divers returned there on Wednesday after an improvement in the weather.

Sergeant Matt Tailby, of Greymouth police, says the search is expected to resume on Thursday, if the weather stays favourable.

Mr Lynch was with the boat's skipper, Mark Thomas, and fellow fishermen Jay Cairney when they ran into trouble.

Mr Cairney's body was located at the wreckage, while Mr Thomas was found alive on a nearby beach after the alarm was raised.
