No real threat to Lord of the Rings
Organisers of the Lord of the Rings carnival in Wellington say they wouldn't go ahead if they thought there was a terrorist threat
4 November 2002
Former Wellington Mayor Mark Blumsky describes the canning of a huge night time party for the national premiere of the second part of the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy as 'a beat-up'.
The Wellington street carnival has been axed.
Organiser Mark Blumsky says there is a nervousness emanating from America about stars attending big public parties after dark.
He says the organisers just want to assure the Americans they have thought of all the risks.
Celebrations will now take place during the day, before the movie screening.
Mark Blumsky says just who will be there is a secret.
He says they are hoping director Peter Jackson and Richard Taylor attend, and they have had word there'll be some other big names.
