Former Crusaders assistant coach Tabai Matson is joining the Chiefs as part of new head coach Colin Cooper's backroom staff for the next two Super Rugby seasons.
In September, Matson announced he was stepping down as head coach of English club Bath so he could return to New Zealand because of illness in the family.
"Although it was disappointing to leave Bath, the unexpected opportunity to be involved with the Chiefs was too good to pass up," he said on Tuesday.
"I've really enjoyed working with Colin historically and we share a lot of similar values which will align closely with the culture of the Chiefs."
Matson was assistant for three years to Cooper when the latter was Maori All Blacks head coach.
Cooper is taking over at the Chiefs from Dave Rennie, who has left for Scottish club Glasgow after guiding the franchise to two titles.
The rest of Cooper's staff comprises returning coaches Neil Barnes, Andrew Strawbridge and Carl Hoeft.
The New Zealand Super Rugby squads for 2018 are due to be named on Wednesday.
