    All Blacks open World Cup against Boks

    The All Blacks' defence of the Rugby World Cup in 2019 will begin with a showdown against traditional rivals South Africa in Yokohama.

    The All Blacks' defence of their Rugby World Cup crown in Japan in 2019 will begin with a mouth-watering pool clash with traditional foes South Africa.

    That match will be on September 21 in Yokohama, with kickoff at 6:45pm (9.45pm NZT).

    While New Zealand have won the past two tournaments and three in total, the Springboks are two-time champions.

    The All Blacks then have an 11-day gap before meeting the repechage winner in Oita.

    They close out their pool program against a side from African qualifying and Italy.

    The draw was made by World Rugby on Thursday in Tokyo.

    The tournament's opening fixture is on September 20 between Japan and the Europe 1 qualifiers in Tokyo. The final will be on November 2 in Yokohama.

    All Blacks' 2019 Rugby World Cup pool matches:

    * Sept 21 - v South Africa, Yokohama, 6.45pm (9.45pm NZT)

    * Oct 2 - v repechage winner, Oita, 7.15pm (11.15pm NZT)

    * Oct 6 - v Africa 1, Tokyo, 1.45pm (5.45pm NZT)

    * Oct 12 - v Italy, Aichi, 1.45pm (5.45pm NZT).
