The car belonging to a missing man has been found at an entrance to the Heaphy Track on the West Coast.
On Tuesday police said they were investigating the disappearance of 53-year-old Colin Malcolm Ross, who had been missing for a week.
On Friday a post on a family Facebook page set up to support the search said the car had been found at the Heaphy Track and a search was being organised.
A police spokeswoman said the car was found at the Karamea end of the track.
The family and friends had organised a helicopter search over Waihopai Valley and other areas and the intention had been to spread the search area to the West Coast during the weekend.
Mr Ross lives in the Waihopai Valley, near Blenheim.
