    Three Kiwis awarded Rhodes Scholarships

Three Kiwi students will head to Oxford University for post graduate studies, after being awarded prestigious Rhodes Scholarships.

Three Kiwis will head to the University of Oxford to continue studying after each was awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.

    The successful recipients were:

Jean Balchin, 23, who is completing a Bachelor of Arts Honours in English literature at the University of Otago.

Jamie Beaton, 22, who graduated from Harvard University with a double degree in applied math and economics, and a Master of Science in applied math.

Marco de Jong, 22, from the University of Auckland who is completing a Master of Arts.

The Rhodes Scholarship provides opportunities for exceptional all-round students to carry out postgraduate study at the University of Oxford.

''Through the Rhodes Scholarship you have the opportunity, as well as the character, academic ability, and passion, to make a real contribution to New Zealand and the rest of the world, in your chosen field,'' said Governor-General Dame Patsy Reddy.

The Rhodes Scholarship selects 95 scholars from 64 countries to help with their post-graduate studies.

The scholarship covers the students' fees, accommodation and living costs for up to three years at Oxford, which is one of the oldest and top-ranked universities in the world.
