Football Ferns name team for Thailand tour

Interim Football Ferns co-coaches Andreas Heraf and Gareth Turnbull have named a 23-strong squad to travel to Thailand for two matches this month.

The post-Tony Readings era has begun in earnest for the Football Ferns, who will have little time to ponder the loss of their former coach when they jet off for two international friendlies against Thailand in late November.

Readings stepped down from the Ferns top job last week, having coached the side for six years and led them to a Women's World Cup and two Olympics.

Interim co-coaches Andreas Heraf and Gareth Turnbull have named a 23-strong squad to travel to Thailand later this month for two matches in Bangkok.

Amber Hearn returns to the fold after missing the side's last two matches against the United States, while Annalie Longo and Ali Riley will likely play.

Quartet Hannah Blake, Maggie Jenkins, Elise Mamanu-Gray and Jana Radosavljevic have all been selected for the first time by Heraf and Turnbull.

Heraf, a New Zealand Football technical director who only joined in August, said he'd mostly relied upon Turnbull for talent identification.

He felt they were getting along well together.

"I have a good feeling about it, and we have a good balance in the squad. There are a lot of experienced players and a few younger ones - those new ones will get the experience and feeling of being with the Ferns," Heraf said.

    "It'll be exciting for everybody."

The Ferns lost both their matches against USA, 3-1 and 5-0.

FOOTBALL FERNS: Victoria Esson, Anna Leat, Erin Nayler, CJ Bott, Anna Green, Meikayla Moore, Ria Percival, Ali Riley, Rebekah Stott, Katie Bowen, Olivia Chance, Betsy Hassett, Grace Jale, Maggie Jenkins, Annalie Longo, Elise Mamanu-Gray, Jana Radosavljevic, Hannah Blake, Amber Hearn, Aimee Phillips, Katie Rood, Stephanie Skilton, Hannah Wilkinson.
