    Miraculous escape after truck plunge

    The driver of a truck and trailer unit has walked away unscathed after the vehicle plunged 10 metres into the Karangahake Gorge on State Highway 2.


    The driver of a truck and trailer unit that plunged 10 metres down a gorge has walked away uninjured.

    The crash took place in the early hours of Friday morning on State Highway 2 between Paeroa and Waihi.

    Firefighters responded to the incident at 5am and helped the truck driver up the steep bank, Fire and Emergency northern shift communications manager Jaron Philips said.

    Police said they were making enquiries.

    Motorists should expect delays between 10am and 2pm, while the truck is being removed from Karangahake Gorge.
