    Sick fisherman rescued off Cape Palliser

    A sick fisherman has been lifted off his vessel and flown to Wellington Hospital.


    A sick fisherman has been winched off a his vessel off the southern tip of the North Island.

    The man, in his 40s, was flown to hospital on Saturday morning, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter says.

    A paramedic was initially dropped onto the boat, about 50km off Cape Palliser, before the decision was made to winch the ill man aboard.

    He was flown to Wellington Hospital in a stable condition.
